Artist Statement
We live in a period of history when everything moves at an accelerated pace due to technology and science. As each day passes, we move further and further from our natural state and setting. We lose touch with what is elemental and beautiful. Today we do not see a pistol in a flower, the soft grass under our feet, or feel the electric shock when we first kiss our crush.
I respond and create to feeling the energy flow through a father holding his son in deep love or the happiness a beautiful blooming flower invokes in the elderly. You have to let go of life’s anvil of stress to see the things that most people displace as ordinary or nothing.
I believe that Camille Pissarro said it best, “Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.” I want my work to open other’s perception and make people really see life, see it through the eyes of their soul.
When creating a painting or piece of jewelry, natural elements and the importance of the human connection source my inspiration. By painting various layers of texture and color, I am able to create visual interest points in each quadrant of the whole work. Painting procures my vision into something beautiful and tangible.
